Hey, my name is Zac 👋

I’m the author of Startup Social.

Three years ago I moved across the country, to Silicon Valley. Before then I had never worked in tech, I knew very little about startups, but one thing I knew for certain was that I felt very alone.

So I started hosting little gatherings, and over time those little gathering turned into big gatherings. Then those big gatherings turned into a community, and that’s why you’re here today.

In those first three years, I hosted over 140 events. From huge 500+ person networking mixers, to private startup dinners. From yoga classes, to book clubs, to workshops and everything in between. My goal was give people permission to let their guard down, and connect with each other as real people. To be seen, and to feel part of something bigger than their work.

And after meeting thousands of people, in hundreds of different industries, at all levels of success, I discovered one thing. People felt terribly lost and alone.

Through this experience, I came to believe that modernity has egregiously upended our sense of contentment. That too many of us are well fed and well payed, but live every day starving for meaning.

This newsletter attempts to understand why, and more importantly, give you the tools to reconnect with what is actually important to you.

Here are a few of my popular posts to give you a sense of what to expect:
